My debut memoir explores how dying during childbirth exposed a generational trauma within the mothers of my family and how this discovery reshaped my role as a mother, daughter and wife forever.
At the threshold of entering motherhood Jules’ life ended suddenly when eclampsia took over her body during the final push of labour. As her baby’s life was beginning, hers was ending as she flatlined on the birthing bed. She woke up the next morning in the ICU knowing something beyond her happened, something she couldn’t quite put words to yet. Faced with her own mortality and coming back as a new mother Jules battles with her mental health and soon retreats to the silence of not knowing how to speak of such a trauma. Through her silence she represses the details and images that haunt her in the early months of motherhood.
" Every year I live beyond when I experienced near death, is a year I have stolen. I am going to take these stolen
years and live the most incredible life I can live.
Leaving deep rooted footprints behind me."
